This was the time when people of every class child or an elder were mad for the first super star of Hindi cinema. Rajesh Khanna became favorite of all ages. He became the first superstar of the Indian cinema and people were mad for to watch his movies.
His new film ' ANAND ' was released. It was in 1971. I was very young those days, living in Delhi. The film was released in one of the best theater of Delhi "Palace" (during those days). The theater was very near to my house. We friends, four , were very crazy for Rajesh Khanna, decided to watch the movie first day first show. Because the theater was very near to our home so we decided to leave at around 11 am. We were very excited that we are going watch Rajesh Khanna starter movie. Amitabh Bachan was also there in that movie but the people were going to see Rajesh Khanna only.
When we reached at cinema hall and we saw the situation there, we just remained devastated. There were very long queues on the ticket window and the crowd was uncontrollable. The authority had to call police to control the situation. Police had to lathhi charged to control the crowd. But still no body was ready to leave their place in the queue. Everybody present there, wanted to see the film on the first day and first show. For that they were ready for anything. One of my friend had a close contact with the manager of the cinema hall, so after a request, we got our tickets. But the ticket window was closed in a few minutes. Disappointment could be clearly seen on the faces of those people who did not get their tickets.
To my surprise the situation inside of the cinema hall was also very electrifying. People were clapping on every dialogue of Mr. Khanna, throwing coins on the songs, smiling when ANAND was smiling and weeping when ANAND was in pain. It was the charisma of the first Super Star of Hindi cinema, Rajesh Khanna.Today he is not there but he will always be remembered through his movies and his roles. Here I would say
" Anand Mara Nahi , Anand Kabhi Marte Nahi "
Romy Kapoor (Kapildev)
